The Knitting Race 2026

Knitting Race 2026 – Knitting Race
30 challenges. One per day. At your own pace.
October 2026 will be a little more playful than usual.
Knitting Race is a free knitting challenge organized by Arteeni. The goal is to complete as many knitting-, yarn-, and knitter-related challenges as you like. The challenge includes knitting, confronting unfinished projects, learning new things, a bit of silliness, and plenty of community spirit.
This is not a competition to see who can knit the fastest, the most, or the most impressive project. The most important things are participation, enjoying your hobby, and having fun.
October ends. The Race doesn't necessarily have to.
How does Knitting Race work?
Knitting Race begins on October 1, 2026.
Participation is free and requires no registration. You do not need a race number, an app, or even a social media account. All you need is knitting needles, yarn, and a touch of playful spirit!
There are 30 challenges in total, but you may officially complete only one challenge per day. The challenges can be completed in any order you like. You can start with challenge 17 and do challenge 3 the next day.
The order is entirely up to you.
Knitting Race Rules
1. Knitting Race runs from October 1 to November 30, 2026
You may start your first challenge on October 1, 2026. You are also welcome to join later.
You can share your progress on your own social media, or even tell your neighbor about it over the fence. You can also celebrate your successes, vent your frustrations, or simply chat in Arteeni's daily Knitting Race posts on social media.
You can report your results between November 1 and November 30, 2026 using a form that will be published on Arteeni's website. Submit your results only once, after completing all the challenges you want to officially report.
Beginning December 1, official results, prize draws, and various summaries will be published.
2. There are 30 challenges, but you may officially complete only one challenge per day
You may record only one Knitting Race challenge as completed during any calendar day.
If you complete several challenges on the same day, you may choose only one of them as your official completion.
Each challenge may be completed only once.
3. Missing days do not matter
If you don't feel like knitting, don't have time, or simply forget on a particular day, continue the next day.
No penalties.
No disqualification.
No judges.
If all 30 challenges are not completed during October, you may continue in November.
October ends. The Race doesn't necessarily have to.
4. You do not have to complete every challenge
Knitting Race is not an all-or-nothing challenge.
One completed challenge is better than none, and five completed challenges are better than one.
An honest 7/30 is far more impressive than an invented 30/30.
5. Knitting Race runs on the knitter's honor system
Nobody will check your completions.
Nobody will require photographs, witnesses, or video evidence.
Please report only the challenges you have genuinely completed.
Knitting Race is built on the knitter's honor system.
6. Use common sense
If a challenge does not fit your circumstances, health, or schedule, feel free to skip it.
If a challenge inspires you more than it probably should, go for it. You may even dance while doing it!
7. This is not a test of knitting skills
The purpose of the challenges is to create:
- knitting
- learning
- yarn discoveries
- progress on unfinished projects
- small victories
- community spirit
- good vibes
8. Prizes and prize draws
Possible prizes will be drawn based on the results participants submit.
More information about prizes and drawings will be announced later, but yes, there will be prizes!!
9. Community photos, comments, and stories
By participating in public Knitting Race discussions on social media, you grant permission for your comments and stories to be featured in Knitting Race summaries and community roundup posts.
If a participant's photo or other larger piece of content is used in a publication, permission will always be requested separately.
The Official Knitting Race Pledge
I promise, on my knitter's honor, that I will report only those Knitting Race challenges that I have genuinely completed.
My needles are my witnesses. My yarn is my judge.
The 30 Knitting Race Challenges
- Knit outdoors.
- Show your ugliest yarn and explain why you still own it. Knit at least one row or round with it.
- Try a new knitting technique.
- Find a lovely detail in your project and tell us about it.
- Count your unfinished knitting projects. Check every cupboard, glove compartment, handbag, and under the bed. Tell us how many you have in total!
- Knit with a friend, in person or remotely.
- Share your best knitting tip in the comments on Arteeni's blog.
- Start a new knitting project. You have permission!
- Rip back three rows just because the challenge says so.
- Show a knitted item you genuinely use often. What makes it so good?
- Participate in a knitting-related charity project and donate to premature babies, homeless people, recovering patients, or another worthy cause.
- Start a mini scarf. Yes, really!
- Make something from leftover yarn. This one is deliciously tempting!
- Knit for fifteen minutes without background noise or social media. It's okay if you don't want to stop.
- Find your oldest yarn and decide what you will do with it. Then do it.
- Invent a knitting nickname and describe your knitting alter ego.
- Weave in the ends and finish a project.
- Try a new stitch pattern.
- Cast on 100 stitches, think about what you could make with them, then unravel them all. Yep.
- Build a tower, sculpture, or other artwork from your yarn. I can't wait to see where your creativity takes you!
- Teach another knitter something. Shared joy is doubled joy!
- Knit at a time when you would normally be asleep. Set an alarm, wake up in the middle of the night, and knit at least 20 stitches.
- Present one of your unfinished projects, give it a name, and invent a story about its past or future.
- Count or estimate the size of your yarn stash. And don't even lie to yourself! Dare you tell the rest of us the number?
- Give a small knitting-related gift.
- Find a mistake in a project that you have decided to live with. Tell us about it and how you feel about it! You can also share stories about times you chose to rip back and fix mistakes.
- Knit continuously for one hour.
- Choose an unfinished project you have been avoiding for a long time. Decide its fate: continue, unravel, or return it to waiting status. Then follow through.
- Knit, measure, block, measure. Try to smile while making a gauge swatch!
- Confess one knitting "sin" or habit you might not be comfortable admitting to everyone.
Reporting Your Results
The results form will open no later than November 1, 2026.
You may submit the form once you have completed all the challenges you want included in your official result. Results may be submitted only once.
Official results, prize draws, honorary mentions, and community summaries will be published starting in early December.
Join the Race
You can participate completely on your own or share the journey with others.
Every day at around 9 a.m., a new post will appear on Arteeni's Instagram and Facebook pages where you can celebrate your daily achievements, complain about ridiculous challenges, or share successes, mishaps, yarn discoveries, unfinished projects, and knitting sins.
Download the participant tracker, grab your needles, and choose your first challenge.
I've created ready-made tracking sheets for your personal use. You can download and print them here.
For Instagram posts, you can use this tracker, for Facebook this one, and for Reels/short videos this version, or of course create your own.
The first day of Knitting Race is October 1, 2026.
R-E-A-D-Y... NOW!

Rouvapaja, veit sanat suusta!
Haaste 7. Paras neulontavinkki. Olen kirjoittanut tussilla kahteen silmukkamerkkin taustapuolelle, toiseen o=oikea ja toiseen v=vasen. Näin pysyn kärryillä kumpi on oikean jalan/käden sukka/lapanen.
Kaisu, kokeile uudelleen tai toisella laitteella, kyllä niiden pitäisi toimia.
Rouvapajalle papukaijamerkki!!
Lähden mukaan 👍
Toki ja tottakai tätä pitää kokeilla!
En vain onnistunut saamaan kirjanpito- enkä IG/face päivitystaulukoita aukeamaan. Onko niissä vai käyttäjässä vika? 🤭
